Welcome to the LiveJournal caninefree community! This is a place where those who are caninefree can meet like-minded people and discuss the things relevant to their lifestyles. What makes a person caninefree? caninefree.net likely says it best:

"We are a group of adults who all share at least one common desire: we do not wish to have dogs of our own. We are teachers, veterenarians, business owners, authors, computer experts -- you name it. We choose to call ourselves "caninefree" rather than "canineless," because we feel the term "canineless" implies that we're missing something we want -- and we aren't. We consider ourselves canineFREE -- free of the loss of personal freedom, money, time and energy that having canines requires."
Caninefree means that you do not want canines -- now or ever. If you have no canines now, but plan to in the future -- through adoption or biologically -- you are canineless.

Attention! If you are a dog owner or a fan of dogs in general, and you are curious to know why the caninefree feel the way that they do about dogs/their owners, then please go here before joining our community and asking questions. We've been asked over and over about our views and, quite frankly, we're a little sick of it. Thanks for your co-operation!

For the record, not all caninefree people necessarily hate canines; many actually love canines and enjoy being around them -- they simply don't want any of their own, which is what caninefreedom is. True, some hate dogs, but that is their personal preference, and they are entitled to it just as you are entitled to yours. As long as no one is getting hurt, who cares? In addition, this community is not about being politically correct, so if you are easily offended, there are other, more "gentle" caninefree communities on LiveJournal; kindly do not complain about it here, because the only thing you'll get for it is derision.

Here are the rules:
  1. Adhere to the LiveJournal terms of service.

  2. You must be caninefree or support caninefreedom. If you are a dog owner, feel free to join, but do not post about your dogs. This includes usericons featuring your dogs and anything beginning with, "As a dog owner, I..." Caninefree members, no witch hunts. If someone doesn't post about being a dog owner here, you shouldn't post about them being a dog owner, either.

  3. We don't care to hear about how you're going to have six dogs but totally support us, so if that's what you want to post, step away from the "Update Journal" page. Why? Look here.

  4. Do not Bingo posters or commenters. For an explanation of what this means, go here.

  5. Trolls will be banned, and so will those unable to act like reasonable adults. We know that "reasonable adults" is a subjective opinion. Grand, isn't it?

  6. Do not link to other LiveJournals or posts in them without permission from their owners clearly indicated in the post or comments. This includes "crossposted here, here and here" notices.

  7. Do not spam the community. We do not want to see the following: off-topic and duplicate posts, "you suck and I'm leaving" posts, "debate" posts (that's what </a></b></a>cf_debate is for), quiz results, and community promotion posts (that's what </a></b></a>community_promo is for).

  8. We're also sick of seeing: "oh my god look what I saw on Craigslist" posts, "check out this freeloading dog owner on Freecycle" posts, and that picture of the dog chewing on the baby's ear. Trust us.

  9. Congratulations on adopting a new baby! It's great that you did so. Save it for </a></b></a>cf_pets unless you want to talk about how it was rescued from some dog who abused it or some such thing.

  10. LJ-cut all lengthy posts, embedded videos, and any pictures, and use plain black text when posting. In addition, leave comments enabled on all posts.

  11. If you have any questions or concerns, e-mail the mods at the address listed above. Do not comment on their personal journals. Do not e-mail them at their personal e-mail addresses. It is the moderators' job to run the community. If you are not a moderator, do not attempt to moderate. You will be banned.
